  • Advanced Design (e.g., design automation, optimization, computational synthesis, design methods, design education, human-centered design).

Applicants from all other areas of mechanical engineering are also encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate level courses in the core curriculum and in the candidate's specialization area. In addition to teaching, the position requires an active agenda of mentoring student scholars and researchers as well as service in the UT Dallas and/or professional community.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and demonstrate their commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service, which includes a strong commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. All candidates are expected to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. The appointment commences fall 2023. A doctoral degree is required prior to joining; those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage.

The Department/School

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UT Dallas was founded in 2008, offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees, and, according to 2022 US News and World Report, is ranked as the third best mechanical engineering department among public universities in Texas. The department is home to approximately 1000 undergraduate students, 200 graduate students, and 36 faculty. Our faculty are highly decorated with 11 NSF CAREER awardees and 7 DoD Young Investigator Program awards. The department is primarily housed in a new building with 200,000 square feet for teaching and research, opened in fall 2019, and home to a unique boundary layer and subsonic wind tunnel (BLAST) to support renewable energy research. The close proximity to the UT Southwestern Medical Center and joint graduate programs offers outstanding opportunities for collaborative research.
