  • research expertise in planning or managing sustainable urban transport systems, focusing on multiple transport modes (e.g. walking, cycling, public transport);
  • strong methodological expertise in quantitative methods, such as data analytics, modelling, evaluation, or optimization; and
  • well-developed collaboration skills and an excellent command of English.

During the selection procedure, preference will be given to candidates who have one or more of the following:
  • a research profile which crosses sectoral boundaries (e.g. land use, energy, health, ICT)
  • a strong interest in sustainable urban transport systems in Nordic and European contexts
  • experience in acquiring academic competitive research funding
  • experience of research cooperation with the public sector, private sector or NGOs
  • a strong academic network
  • scientific awards and recognitions
  • teaching experience and qualifications in pedagogy

After recruitment, the successful candidate will be expected to:
  • initiate innovative research projects on sustainable urban transportation engineering
  • supervise doctoral researchers and produce high-quality research published in peer-reviewed journals
  • disseminate research results, enhance the international visibility of Aalto University, the School of Engineering and the Department of Built Environment, and engage with society at large
  • collaborate with different stakeholders, as well as with colleagues in Aalto University and across the global community; and
  • provide high-quality teaching, typically around 15 ECTS per year, particularly in the MSc programmes in Spatial Planning and Transportation Engineering (SPT) and Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions (EIT).
