Position Summary:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CoECS) at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro (A-State) seeks to hire a full-time Instructor in Mechanical Engineering. This nine-month on-campus non-tenure track appointment will begin no later than August 16th, 2025. Teaching proficiency is expected in all areas of Mechanical Engineering but especially in the area of Fluid and Thermal sciences including lab courses in Mechanical Engineering (ME). Successful applicants will actively engage in service-related activities. The new hire will be a part of an outstanding CoECS team to take the college to greater heights of achievement in the years to come.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of this position fall within three broad areas of teaching, mentoring, and service. The successful candidate will teach key engineering and ME courses, and especially in thermal and fluid sciences, including Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics Lab, Thermal Fluid Lab, Heat Transfer, as well as advising Senior Design Projects. The ME program shares some freshmen and sophomore courses with Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering programs. The candidate will be expected to teach some of those courses from time to time. Candidates will be encouraged to perform independent research as well as collaborative research projects with our existing faculty as possible.
Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and a commitment to collaborating with students and faculty members. The candidate will be expected to engage with the Center for Teaching and Learning for continuous improvement of teaching skills. As part of the obligations, the hired candidate is also expected mentor students, serve on committees and participate in recruiting and outreach activities.
About the College:
The CoECS is on a growth trajectory with a strategic development plan, emphasizing student experience, faculty development, and strong community engagement. The college serves in excess of 800 students across nine majors. It offers ABET-accredited B.S. degrees in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as M.S. degrees in these fields. This new hire will contribute to core disciplines within CoECS, aligning with the needs of a rapidly growing industrial sector in the region. CoECS also has a global impact, with a campus in Querétaro, Mexico (ASUCQ). Student success and research are important endeavors in the college. Recently, the college received a $10M grant for equipment to set up a steel research center on campus to serve the fast-growing steel industry in the state which is slated to become the first in the nation very soon for steel production. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Broad knowledge of the courses at undergraduate level mainly in Mechanical Engineering including upper-level courses like Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics Lab, and Heat Transfer, etc.
Ability to collaborate with faculty in Mechanical Engineering and across other disciplines within the college will be viewed very positively.
General Days/Hours:
Applicants should expect to maintain a teaching and office hours’ schedule within regular business hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Thermal and Fluid sciences, completed by Aug 15th, 2025, or expected by the end of the 2025-2026 academic year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have an earned master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution completed by August 15th, 2025.
Applicant must have an earned bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Applicants must demonstrate an ability to work effectively with diverse groups
