The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEEN) at the University of Utah invites applications from individuals who have had full-time experience and decision-making responsibilities in the construction industry for a 9-month (Aug 16-May 15), career-line faculty position in the area of Construction Engineering. A full-time or part-time option is available for this position. This position has an anticipated start date of January 3, 2022 or later. This position is anticipated to be filled at the Professor level, although outstanding candidates at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels are encouraged to apply. This position is part of the University of Utah’s priority to build a diverse faculty; thus, female and minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Position Description – The successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Construction Engineering in support of our BS and MS degrees, advise undergraduate and graduate students, mentor junior faculty members, engage in curriculum discussions, collaborate with other faculty on professional development interests, and provide departmental, college and university service. An earned Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely aligned field and U.S. construction industry expertise before the date of hire are required. A MBA combined with a technical construction undergraduate and experience background may be suitable. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies are also necessary. An engineering degree and a PE are highly desirable but not required.
Driven by the need to provide cost effective solutions to increasingly complex challenges of aging infrastructure renovation and development of new facilities for expanding populations, significant changes in the field of construction are occurring. To address these challenges, applicants should have expertise in the state-of-the-art practice in Construction. Candidates with experience and interest in commercial horizontal, vertical, or façade construction, are preferred. Candidates with strong core fundamentals that allow them to work across disciplinary boundaries are particularly encouraged to apply. We are seeking highly motivated team players looking to help build exciting undergraduate and graduate programs in Construction and Infrastructure Engineering and to contribute to the Department’s online education efforts.
