The Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa invites applications for a full-time, extramurally-funded, non-tenure-track faculty position.  Subject to position clearance, satisfactory performance, and availability of funds, this position is intended to start in the Spring 2026 semester.  The University of Hawai'i at Manoa is a Carnegie Research 1 university with a strong emphasis on research and graduate education.  The Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, and its undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering are ABET accredited.  Current enrollment in the Department includes approximately more than 300 undergraduate and 60 to 70 graduate students with 21 faculty members.  For more information on the department, please visit http://www.cee.hawaii.edu/.


Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach 2-3 courses per semester, or 4-6 courses per academic year, as needed, and as instructed by the Department Chair.  The number of courses taught will depend on the time required to perform the duties of the faculty in achieving the objectives of the Construction Engineering program.  In so far as possible, the courses should include some or all of the following topics or any other suitable topics that will better prepare students for a career in construction engineering and construction management:

Construction Methods (CEE 471)
Construction Project Management (CEE 472)
Construction Equipment and Methods (CEE 473)
Construction Estimating and Bidding (CEE 474)
Construction Planning and Scheduling (CEE 476)
Construction Safety (CEE 478)
Construction Law (CEE 479)

The faculty member will serve on appropriate Department, College, and/or University committees and provide service to the construction and engineering communities.

The faculty member will assist in the curriculum development for the current ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering, as well as advise the University on curriculum content for a potentially new Construction Management degree or certificate program.

The faculty member is not tasked with research or writing papers for publication but may do so at his/her own initiative.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree with emphasis in construction engineering, construction engineering management, construction management or related field.
  • At least three years of experience as a construction engineer or construction manager or a related field.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. degree with emphasis in construction engineering, construction engineering management, construction management, or related field.
  • Experience teaching construction engineering courses at the University level
  • At least five years of experience as a construction engineer or construction manager in the construction industry or client organization
  • Professional Engineer license and/or Project Management Professional
  • Experience in program and curriculum development of a construction engineering program.
  • Familiarity with the Hawaii construction engineering and/or management industry.
