The Department Head is responsible for administering an academic department within a college which may include and is not limited to, faculty recruitment and development, faculty evaluation, program development, program review, curriculum development, student advisement, departmental budgeting and budget control, class schedule planning, and general supervision of the teaching, research, and service and related scholarly activities of the department.
Description of Primary Duties
Provide leadership and vision to ensure the success of the Technology and Construction Management Department. Provide active leadership in recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of faculty and students. Enhance the department’s academic and professional reputation within the community including but not limited to developing and enhancing relationships with departmental advisory boards and cultivating employer relationships that facilitate placement of graduates. Maintain program specific accreditations. Teach courses and conduct research to remain scholarly active. Supervise the administrative functions of the department. Promote a collegial environment.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Department Head are prescribed by the College Dean in concert with guidance from the Provost. A demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment is required.
An earned doctorate in an appropriate construction or engineering-related discipline. Eligible for appointment as a tenured Associate or Full Professor. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Successful interaction with industry. Demonstrated leadership, collegiality, and commitment to promoting a diverse environment.
