Position Description
The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) is announcing an exciting opportunity for a Teaching Assistant Professor position in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Construction Engineering. This is a full-time non-tenure track position with a nine-month service period, beginning in September 2022. SET is a vibrant and rapidly growing school that is guided by the campus core values of excellence, community, diversity, and innovation in the South Puget Sound region. We expect our faculty to have a strong commitment to working with underrepresented populations and enhancing the diversity of STEM education.

UW Tacoma, one of three University of Washington (UW) campuses, is an urban undergraduate and graduate-level campus that is changing the face of its region economically, culturally, and architecturally. SET has several ABET-accredited programs, all of which can be found on SET has recently expanded its degree offerings with state approved funding beginning with Mechanical Engineering in Autumn 2020, followed by Civil Engineering in Autumn 2021. A new building housing these programs is scheduled to be completed by 2023.

UW Tacoma is a 46-acre, urban-serving campus that currently serves approximately 5400 students and is comprised of award-winning architectural LEED-certified, repurposed warehouses amid the city’s museum mile. Situated on the high-technology corridor of Puget Sound, UW Tacoma offers views of the historic Foss Waterway and Mount Rainier, and provides a perfect gateway to the Pacific Northwest recreation opportunities. Minimum a M.S. (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering (), Construction Engineering, or a related field is required for this position. Positive factors for consideration for this position include, but are not limited to, possession of a PhD in a relevant field, industry experience in a relevant field, possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license, prior teaching experience in construction engineering, and ability to teach foundational engineering courses. Candidates should have potential for excellence in teaching as documented in the teaching statement.
