Job Details:

The Mercer University School of Engineering (MUSE) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Environmental & Civil Engineering, starting August 2025 on the Macon, Georgia campus.

 

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate would have the interest in and expertise to teach statics, geotechnical engineering, foundations, and surveying. Mercer Engineering uses a core curriculum model, and this faculty member would be expected to periodically teach fundamental engineering courses such as introduction to engineering design, programming for engineers, statics, and senior design capstone, among others. The ideal candidate should also have the ability to support Mercer University’s signature Mercer On Mission Program (http://mom.mercer.edu/), which offers faculty unique opportunities to develop and lead sustainable international service and research projects, carried out with Mercer students and host-community collaborators. The position requires a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and master’s levels, integrating service and research, and scholarship focused on the institution’s educational mission.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering; or equivalent

  • A Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or closely related field with an applied research agenda

  • Applicants who are ABD may apply if they will have their degree by the time of employment

  • A commitment to an academic culture that is inclusive of a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff

  • Effective oral and written communication with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional engineering registration in the U.S. or the ability to become licensed within five years

  • Prior teaching experience at the college level

  • Consulting or industrial experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead international service and research projects

  • Experience with professional organizations such as ABET, ASCE, and ASEE is highly desirable

Mercer’s undergraduate engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org. The School of Engineering offers both Bachelor and Master of Science in Engineering degrees with specializations in biomedical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, industrial, mechanical and software, as well as engineering-related programs in technical communications, cybersecurity, industrial management, and environmental systems. An undergraduate minor and graduate concentration in engineering for development are also offered. The undergraduate curriculum is dynamic, innovative, broadly based, and includes the option of an integrated BSE/MSE degree program for qualified candidates. Total engineering enrollment is over 800 students. Mercer’s Environmental & Civil Engineering Department attracts a diverse group of students, many of whom are involved in research. The department is a leader in student awards/recognition, including one recent student being named the Engineering Student of the Year by the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, and four students in the department receiving the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship over the past seven years (leading the nation among Civil/Environmental Engineering departments during this period).
