The job is to help Dr. Maurizio Manzo (PI) and Dr. Zhenhua Huang (co-PI) to carry out the research project "Develop Improved Methods for Eliminating Striping on Roadway Surfaces" that is funded by the Research and Technology Implementation Division, Texas Department of Transportation. The job includes the purchase of laser equipment, survey for current striping elimination methods, preparation of concrete specimens, laboratory testing to adjust laser’ parameters, laboratory testing for eliminating stripes on surfaces of concrete specimens marked with current standard materials: thermoplastics, water-based paint, and preformed tape. Finally, the field tests for removing various marked stripes from roadways in Texas will be completed. In addition, this job needs to analyze the collected data and explore a synthesis study on the existing methods of removing stripes from roadways used in Texas and elsewhere, and examine and compare these removal methods with the proposed laser technique on different roadway surfaces to determine the most effective methods for pavement marking removals. Furthermore, this job needs to help PI and co-PI to prepare progress reports, prepare the prototype of the laser system and final report, and write scientist papers as well as proposals for applying new research projects.
