The University of Kentucky’s Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering is recruiting for a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-track position in food and bioprocess engineering, to be stationed in Lexington, KY. This position will have an approximate start date of July 1, 2020, with a distribution of effort of approximately 70% research, 25% teaching, and 5% service. The successful candidate must know engineering fundamentals and unit operations that they can apply to process development and scale-up of fermentation, separation, isolation, and purification of biofuels, bioproducts, and traditional food and beverage applications. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with researchers in the James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits.
The successful candidate is expected to: develop a nationally recognized research program evidenced by publications in leading peer-reviewed scholarly journals; and attract external funding to support research efforts, including funding of graduate students; and demonstrate commitment and ability to work with teams of researchers on interdisciplinary problems; and recruit and direct MS and PhD graduate students; and develop an active Hatch project; and contribute to the multi-functional land-grant mission of the Department through outreach and engagement efforts with community stakeholders; and exhibit excellence in classroom instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Qualifications include: a Ph.D. in biosystems/agricultural engineering or a closely-related field with an emphasis on fermentation, microbiology, food engineering, and unit operations; and have a P.E. or demonstrate the ability to qualify for a P.E. in Kentucky; and the ability to conduct high-level independent research and oversee graduate student research; and teaching effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; and demonstration of outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
