Candidates are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the lab of Prof. Andrew Smith within the Department of Bioengineering and the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This position focuses on the preclinical testing of drug delivery systems using quantitative methods of pharmacology in rodent models. Particular emphasis is on drug delivery to immune cells in the context of inflammatory disorders modulated by diet and hormonal changes. Candidates are required to have peer-reviewed publications demonstrating first-hand experience in pharmacological studies in mouse models using quantitative pharmacokinetic and biodistribution analyses. It is preferred that candidates are experienced in creating and maintaining animal protocols, working on multidisciplinary and collaborative team projects, and managing multiple concurrent projects. Preferred experiences also include the handling of radioisotopes, molecular analyses (RT-qPCR, RNA sequencing, Western blotting), and diverse modalities of optical microscopy and radiologic imaging.
Candidates who demonstrate scientific curiosity, passion for research, and deep knowledge of the research literature will receive priority consideration. Eligible candidates must have obtained a Ph.D. degree in life sciences, pharmacology, bioengineering, or a closely related discipline within 10 years of the start date of the position. The Postdoctoral Research Associate is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The initial appointment is for 6 months with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $46,000 – $56,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, while also considering internal equity. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.
