Underwater Robotics

 

Work description

  1. Study of the following topics: a. Motion models of ASV and AUV (kinematics and dynamics) b. Models for acoustic modems (propagation delays, communication schemes, acoustic ranging) c. Underwater localization principles
  2. Develop software drivers for integration of components in embedded systems (AUV and ASV).
  3. Develop a simulation environment for cooperative AUV and ASV operations, including communication constraints.
  4. Simulate cooperative missions with communication capabilities.
  5. Integrate communication capabilities in autonomous vehicles (AUV & ASV).
  6. Plan and participate in field trials to validate cooperative maneuvers, including partial testing and tank experiments.
  7. Report and disseminate the developed work (ideally with a publication)

 

Academic Qualifications

Undergraduate studies in Naval Architechture and Ocean Engineering

 

Minimum profile required

Konwledges of Python and C++

 

Preference factors

Previous experience in Robotics Systems Development

 

Maintenance stipend: € 601,12, according to the table of monthly maintenance stipend for FCT grants , paid via bank transfer. Grant holders may be awarded potential supplements, according to a quarterly evaluation process (Articles 19, 21 and 22 of the Regulations for Grants of INESC TEC and Annex II), up to a maximum limit of 50% of the monthly maintenance stipend.

 

INESC TEC supports costs with registration, enrolment or tuition fees, during the grant duration, under the terms established in the internal document: "Payment of Tuition fees to grant holders".

 

The grant holder will benefit from health insurance, supported by INESC TEC.
