The Centre for Optical Fiber technology (COFT) hosts state-of-the-art fabrication equipment for several kinds of optical fibres, ranging from standard silica fibres to a variety of advanced specialty fibres, microstructured fibres and novel glasses. Key equipment includes a 8.5 m dual-side fibre drawing tower, a Modified Chemical Vapour Deposition (MCVD) fibre preform lathe hosted in 200 m2 of cleanroom space. The facility also includes 300 m2 of dedicated chemical preparation area for glass etching and machining, advanced fibre processing and characterisation systems,

We are looking for a Project Officer to support optical fiber fabrication and facility management at the Centre for Optical fiber Technology. The role will focus on fabrication of optical fibers using modified chemical vapor deposition and stack-and-draw technique. The Project Officer will also be responsible for the upkeep for the fiber fabrication facility.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate optical fibers in the fiber fabrication facility at NTU.

  • Characterize basic properties of the optical fibers fabricated and cataloguing them.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot of fiber fabrication facility.

  • Provide logistical and administrative support pertaining to laboratory operations.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or related field.

  • Prior experience in laboratory environment.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and excellent time management skills.
