New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is a new research university in the thriving capital of the UAE. It is closely affiliated with NYU in New York. NYUAD faculty research is strongly supported by the new Center for Science and Engineering, outfitted with instruments and equipment worth over $15M. A state-of-the-art Micro- and Nanofabrication Facility including a Bioimaging facility and a 3D printing lab is available for use.

For a new research project funded by the local Educational Council, we are seeking for a highly-motivated postdoctoral associate who is interested in working at the interface between biology and engineering. The aim of the project is to build a brain organoid-on-a-chip and to recapitulate important aspects of organogenesis so that early organ development can be studied. Organoids hold great promise for understanding aspects of early organ development and as a screening platform for the discovery of potential therapeutics for developmental disorders. The postdoctoral associate will use a highly miniaturized microfluidic platform to generate brain organoids and use them to characterize the neurogenesis process. The in vitro brain organoid models will provide the unique opportunity to obtain information about early brain development and elucidate the mechanisms of neurologic disorders.

Requirements:

We seek a postdoctoral graduate with strong background and experience in stem cell/induced pluripotent stem cell biology, including light microscopy and genomics for characterization. His/her task will be to develop protocols and grow brain organoids in 2D and 3D platforms. Previous experience in building microfluidic devices is a plus. The postdoctoral associate will be supervised by two PIs, a cell biologist and a bioengineer. Applicants are expected to thrive in a team setting with interdisciplinary collaborations and a state-of-the-art research facility. The position is for two years.

Please email to Prof. Piergiorgio Percipalle (pp69@nyu.edu) and Rafael Song (rafael.song@nyu.edu) for more information. To apply for this position, submit your CV, two publications highlighting recent research efforts, your PhD thesis, at least two recommenders’ contact information, and a cover letter. We offer attractive salary and benefits including a housing allowance, an annual home travel allowance, and free medical/dental insurance. Please note that UAE does not levy income tax. More information is available at the NYUAD Human Resources site.
