Assistant / Associate / Full Professor in Architectural Engineering
The School of Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications for one or more full-time tenured or tenure-track, nine-month faculty positions in Architectural Engineering (ARE), open to all ranks, to begin September 16, 2021.
Duties include teaching and advising, research and other scholarly activities, and service in one or more ARE disciplines of: building mechanical systems; lighting systems; electrical systems; building envelope; building controls and automation; building energy systems; or related areas. OSU encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and a joint appointment will be considered where appropriate, including with the School of Mechanical Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) or School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS).

One of five schools in the College of Engineering, CCE is committed to advancing knowledge in the built environment. CCE offers B.S., M.S., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering and
B.S. degrees in Architectural Engineering and Construction Engineering Management. CCE currently enrolls approximately 800 undergraduate and 180 graduate students. The 40+ current faculty have specializations in architectural engineering, construction engineering management, engineering education, geomatics engineering, geotechnical engineering, infrastructure materials engineering, ocean and coastal engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, and water resources engineering.
Approved in 2018, ARE is a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program at OSU that is complemented by the pursuit of ARE topics within existing M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in the College of Engineering. We invite applicants who are enthusiastic about developing new ARE courses and initiating, performing, and supervising research that will advance the science and practice of high-performance buildings that are sustainable, intelligent, and resilient. New colleagues will have a unique opportunity to help chart the direction of ARE research and teaching at OSU.
The B.S. degree in ARE provides students with breadth and depth in the engineering sciences of buildings and their systems. It emphasizes integration across ARE disciplines and dovetails with existing civil engineering and construction engineering management programs. The B.S. degree allows students to specialize in an ARE sub-discipline (e.g., building mechanical systems, lighting, structures) while encouraging acquisition of the knowledge and attitude to become leaders in the engineering and design of sustainable and healthy buildings.
New ARE courses and faculty specializing in building mechanical systems, lighting systems, building envelope, building controls and automation, or building power and energy systems will broaden and advance one or more of OSU’s three signature research areas: sustainable earth ecosystems, health and wellness, and/or economic prosperity and social progress. You will support OSU’s mission and goals by contributing to an integrated, multidisciplinary program that supports human outcomes and minimizes detrimental impacts on planet earth by advancing the engineering of buildings.
By date of employment you must have earned a doctoral degree with an emphasis in an architectural engineering discipline, such as architectural engineering, building science, building technology, civil engineering, engineering, high-performance buildings, mechanical engineering, sustainable building systems, or a closely related field. You must be prepared and show potential to effectively teach introductory and advanced courses in the architectural engineering undergraduate and graduate programs, and to develop new courses that serve the architectural engineering program. You must have the potential to establish a productive, externally funded research program that involves students, in a topical area that advances the science, technology, design, and/or construction of high-performance buildings. You must be committed to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. You must be an effective communicator.

To be considered at Associate Professor or Professor levels, you must have teaching and research experience and publications commensurate with these ranks. It is preferred that the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor has been granted elsewhere. Additional required/minimum and preferred qualifications for the rank of Associate Professor and Professor levels are summarized in the position description. Hire with tenure requires the candidate’s dossier to be successfully reviewed by the appropriate Promotion and Tenure Committees and OSU’s Office of Academic Affairs.
