The School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering (SPSPE) at The University of Akron (UA) is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level to begin in Fall 2023, with a preference for candidates with research interests in experimental and/or computational rheology of polymers and complex fluids, polymer processing including additive manufacturing, and/or mechanics of soft matter.

Responsibilities:
Applicants will establish a strong, externally funded research program related to polymer science and engineering, direct M.S. and Ph.D. students, teach graduate and undergraduate classes, and contribute to the functioning of SPSPE, college, and UA.


Required Qualifications:
Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in polymer engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, or a related discipline and demonstrated active research interests and experience in polymeric and related materials.


Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with research interests in experimental and/or computational rheology of polymers and complex fluids, polymer processing including additive manufacturing, and/or mechanics of soft matter. Applicants with demonstrated post-graduation experience in an equivalent academic department, in industry, or during postdoctoral research in academic and/or industrial setting will be given favorable consideration, however, these may be waived for exceptional candidates. Other desired attributes are strong communication skills, commitment to UA’s mission on diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect (DEI), enthusiasm for collaborative research, ability to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program and to direct graduate student research, teach graduate and undergraduate classes, and contribute to the functioning of SPSPE, college, and UA.

Compensation and Benefits:
The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
