Teaching Specialist/Lecturer Position in Structural Engineering
The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities seeks candidates for a teaching specialist or lecturer position. The person in this position will teach undergraduate and mixed undergraduate-graduate courses in the areas of structural mechanics and design. The teaching faculty member is expected to prepare and deliver lectures, prepare homework assignments, quizzes, and exams, hold office hours, assess student work, supervise teaching assistants, and manage the administration of the courses they are assigned to teach. They will also be involved in the continuing improvement of courses and the development of new curriculum.
This position is a nine-month academic appointment that receives full benefits. A 12-month appointment is possible if teaching is performed in the summer as well. The initial contract will be one year, with the option of renewal. If the applicant has a PhD, they may be considered for a non-tenure track teaching assistant professor. Position responsibilities and expectations include teaching 4-5 courses per academic year and advising student chapter activities (e.g., ASCE steel bridge team, ASCE concrete canoe team).
