The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering invites applications for a Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 2 appointment in the field of Software Engineering for autonomous and self-adapting systems at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor beginning July 1, 2020. The appointment is conditional on the approval of the application by the CRC Secretariat.
Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging researchers (i.e. candidate will typically be less than 10 years from their highest degree at the time of nomination, or more than 10 years and has experienced legitimate career interruptions), acknowledged by their peers as having potential to lead in their field. The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering (http://carleton.ca/sce/) is a research-intensive department and hosts a large and active community of faculty members, instructors, and undergraduate and graduate students. The Department participates in a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs. Full advantage is taken of the high concentration of industry and government in the Ottawa area.
Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Software Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates must show membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, or evidence that such membership can be secured according to the accreditation criteria and procedures set by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
The candidate must have a demonstrated strong research capability in the targeted field, with research expertise in one or more fundamental issues defining the field, including but not limited to model-driven software engineering, software engineering for artificial intelligence and machine learning, software reliability, formal methods, and with application in (among others) autonomous vehicles (ground, air, water, space), big data and data analytics, loT and telecommunication, biomedical, cyber-physical systems, robotics.

Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and in promoting interest in young people, particularly those in underrepresented groups, in a technical, engineering career are invited to apply. The Chair holder will teach (under)graduate courses, mentor (under)graduate students, supervise capstone projects and contribute to curriculum development.
We will consider favorably candidates with an interest in innovative teaching methods, in collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to scientific research, with aptitudes for building bridges with community, industry, and government.
