The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) invites applications for the position of Project Officer. The Project Officer will work on a project to conduct research and development work on reinforcement learning to study the role of chemotaxis and phototaxis in algal bloom initiation. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop an algae characterization and enumeration device

  • Carry out experiment on lab-on-chip microfluidics technology

  • Record, analyze and publish scientific results

  • Fabricate microfluidics devices in PDMS or shrink film

  • Active participation in writing research proposal and grants reports

  • Integrate and design prototype for algae lab-on-chip culturing and enumeration.

 

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field

  • Minimum 1-year research experience in lab-on-chip technologies and biosensors

  • Expertise in microfluidics system, lab-on-chip and device integration

  • Previous experience in fabrication and optimization of microfluidic devices using advanced materials.

  • Expertise in CAD drawing, machining, mechanical testing and 3D printing

  • Previous experience in precision tools to design and create intricate microchannel patterns.

  • Publication track record is an advantage

  • Proficiency in basics of programming languages such as C, C++, Matlab and Python

  • Excellent proficiency in writing and spoken English
