Postdoc fellow on Sustainable Multifunctional Construction Materials

The objectives of the postdoc position are to 1) integrate sensing and self-healing properties and other advanced functions in construction materials in a perspective of smart adaptative repair materials to their environment; 2) implement thanks to robotization of resilient construction materials with increased content of industrial by-products and of high-quality durable construction material; 3) to better integrate the environmental conditions and analysis in materials testing and design.

The vision of the Canada Research Chair on Sustainable Multifunctional Construction Materials is to design, characterize, fabricate and implement multifunctional intelligent construction materials from managed resources within a circular economy while respecting the resources’ planetary boundaries. In construction materials, the added value is manifested as improved mechanical, chemical, and environmental durability, and longer service life. Solutions with targeted material applications, bioinspired, reducing the GHG and other impacts, enabling long-term carbon storage and thermal storage, and adapting to global changes are foreseen. The goal is to foster new multifunctional materials in synergy with the ongoing developments of digitization to accelerate the implementation.

Qualifications Requirements

  • Experimental abilities to conduct experiments in the laboratory;
  • Ability to code learning algorithms to guide material design (an asset);
  • Highly driven to conduct, complete, and start new projects;
  • Ease to communicate the results from research (written and spoken), preferably both in French and in English;
  • Interest to work in a team, to contribute to the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.

Start Date
July 2021, according to administrative delays, open to discussion.
