Computer Engineering Faculty Openings
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the College of Engineering (CoEgr) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has multiple faculty openings at all ranks. As part of a premier research university situated in Virginia’s capital city, VCU’s ECE department has bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs and collaborates closely with many VCU schools and departments including researchers on VCU’s medical campus. The department also has significant research projects with a number of government agencies, industries, and other universities in areas such as autonomous vehicles, cyber physical and safety critical systems, smart cities, and cybersecurity. VCU is a Carnegie-classified very high research activity university, and is one of the top 100 universities in the U.S. in federal R&D expenditures. The CoEgr is in an extensive growth stage. Since 2008 it has doubled the number of its faculty and is slated to open a state-of-the-art research facility in 2020. The ECE department currently has 20 tenure-track, tenured and term faculty members.
Candidates should be qualified for an appointment based on excellence in publication, funding and graduate and undergraduate teaching. Well-qualified candidates in all areas of computer engineering will be considered, however, of special interest are faculty in embedded systems design, cyber physical systems, cybersecurity, safety critical systems, and intelligent infrastructure.
Required qualifications: Applicants must have a doctorate in computer or electrical engineering or computer science. Also, junior candidates must have demonstrated ability to establish, or continue, an active, externally funded research program, while senior-level candidates must have a well-developed research portfolio with evidence of substantial external funding.
