Resilient and Innovative Bridges and Structures (RIBS) research group has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral scholar in the general area of structural/bridge engineering with a focus on multihazard engineering. Specific problems of interest include but are not limited to: multihazard risk and resilience assessment of bridges, smart and resilient bridges, advanced numerical modeling, and machine learning in structural engineering. The candidate will work in Dr. Billah’s research group at Lakehead University, in strong collaboration with students and other faculty in the department.

A Ph.D. in civil/structural/earthquake engineering is required as well as a capacity for advanced research that is reflected in a publication record. The following qualifications or attributes are desirable: (a) Ph.D. degree from a reputable university in a closely related thematic area and an interest in pursuing a research career, (b) a strong background of structural/earthquake engineering principles, © experience with structural modeling and simulation (preferably using OpenSees), (d) strong background in nonlinear finite element analysis using ABAQUS/LS-Dyna, (e) programming experience in Python or MATLAB, and (e) an interest in working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment.

It should be noted that applicants with relevant experience will be given special preference. Due to the ongoing COVID-19, those who are currently in Canada will be given preference. Until the travel is allowed, the work can be done remotely. The successful candidate will be expected to take personal initiative to independently structure research tasks to meet project goals and author innovative research articles. The candidate will have the opportunity to work in some ongoing experimental test program.
