Position Description Summary:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at The George Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2025. We seek candidates with expertise in digital health and medical imaging, with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML).
 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary biomedical community with strengths that span a broad spectrum of research topics, including but not limited to the use of advanced AI/ML approaches for medical imaging and digital health, biophotonic tools to advance personalized medicine, new technologies for understanding electrical conduction abnormalities in the heart, developing next-generation biocompatible recording and simulation devices, and engineering novel therapeutic platforms for cancer treatment. They will also engage with multiple departments within the School of Engineering & Applied Science and across the university, including the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Milken Institute School of Public Health, School of Nursing, GW Hospital, and the GW Trustworthy AI initiative, to foster synergistic research collaborations. We specifically welcome candidates with the potential to enhance our BME curriculum in medical imaging, digital health, and AI.
 

Minimum Qualifications:

All applicants must have an earned doctorate in biomedical engineering or a related field. Applicants must demonstrate potential for excellent teaching and for attracting externally funded research.
 

Advertised Salary:

$120,000- $160,000

The George Washington University is in the center of Washington DC. The GW Department of Biomedical Engineering consists of 11 full-time faculty, 12 affiliated and secondary faculty, and 3 adjunct faculty. Approximately 200 students are enrolled in its degree programs. The Department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering. The University’s medical school and hospital, adjacent to the engineering school, are active collaborators in numerous BME research efforts. The School of Engineering and Applied Science, including BME, occupies the 500,000 square-foot Science and Engineering Hall, featuring a state-of-the art imaging facility, nanofabrication facility, and other modern BME research and instructional laboratories.
