Position Summary

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Detroit Mercy College of Engineering and Science invites applicants for a full-time non-tenure track China Program instructor position in Electrical Engineering beginning in August 2024. This position is an annual appointment, renewable based on performance reviews. Instructors are expected to teach courses in-person in China.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate classes to support the department programs abroad. Overseas teaching assignments currently range from six to twelve weeks in length. Instructors are expected to teach various foundational and electrical engineering undergraduate courses and laboratories in China.
  • Commit to engaging a variety of instructional strategies to support student success.
  • Provide students with a course syllabus consistent with the university and department guidelines that provides clear expectations to students, particularly regarding grading and policies.
  • Exhibit a positive professional attitude toward students and the teaching process.
  • Represent the University of Detroit Mercy and be a positive ambassador in the foreign institution.
  • Maintain appropriate communication channel with diverse stakeholders.

Requirements
The successful candidate will be an effective and enthusiastic student-centered teacher, engaging in best practices for active learning and student success, with a demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse population of students. Instructors will teach undergraduate courses and laboratories in Electrical Engineering at our partner schools in China.

Minimum Requirments

  • A minimum of a Master degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required. Doctorate degree is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, and a student-centered approach to excellent teaching and student learning are required.
  • Record of effective and enthusiastic student-centered teaching, engaging in best practices for active learning and student success, with a demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse population of students is required.


Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Commensurate with experience
