Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a non tenure-track Lecturer position in the area of Civil and/or Environmental Engineering to start Fall 2025. This is a full-time (40 hour/week) academic year appointment (9 months from September – May). 

The successful candidate will teach up to eighteen (18) credit hours (or approximately six (6) undergraduate or graduate courses) in civil and/or environmental engineering per academic year. Essential Functions and Job Expectations 

The successful candidate is expected to: 

  • teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in civil and environmental engineering including the areas of surveying, statics, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, probability and statistics, programming, and/or other courses related to their area of technical expertise. 
  • help with student recruitment and advising. 
  • help with CEE curriculum development. 
  • serve on departmental and college level committees where appropriate.  

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (education and experience): 

  • M.S. in Engineering or related field with preference given to civil or environmental engineering-related disciplines. 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills. 

Preferred Qualifications (education and experience): 

  • PhD in Engineering or related field with preference given to civil or environmental engineering-related disciplines. 
  • PE license or relevant professional experience. 
  • Evidence of college level or university level teaching experience. 

 

Additional Information

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering currently has 34 full-time faculty members, approximately 100 graduate students, and approximately 320 undergraduates. The department has recently added a BS in Environmental Engineering degree program. The initial appointment will be for two years, with renewal based on performance.
