Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Transportation Engineering

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering at the University of Minnesota seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position in transportation engineering. We are interested in applicants with strong core fundamentals in science and engineering that allow them to move easily across disciplinary boundaries and work collaboratively to solve complex problems of local and global interests. The appointment is expected to be at the rank of assistant or associate professor, although exceptional candidates at all ranks will be considered.

We are seeking individuals with strong academic backgrounds and research potential in one or more of the following areas: transportation systems analysis including traffic systems operations, transportation data analytics, transportation monitoring and assessment, and impacts of vehicle automation. Other areas of transportation engineering also will be considered. Candidates will be expected to initiate and maintain a strong externally funded research program. Teaching responsibilities will include existing undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as the opportunity to develop new courses in specialty areas. An earned doctorate is required at the time of the appointment.

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering (CEGE) at the University of Minnesota features state-of-the-art facilities, including the Minnesota Traffic Observatory (MTO) and the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute. MTO is a transportation laboratory focusing on the testing and evaluation of new transportation management and operational strategies and traveler information technologies. CEGE is also affiliated with the Center for Transportation Studies, which coordinates efforts across the public-sector, industry, and academia to strategically invest in research in transportation. Additional cutting-edge research facilities are available in the areas of environmental, water resources, structural engineering, pavements, and geomechanics. CEGE is one of twelve departments within the College of Science and Engineering, which offers outstanding opportunities for interdisciplinary research due to the unique combination of mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering in one college.
