Post-Doctoral Positions in (1) Interfacial and Colloidal Science and (2) Biointerfaces and Biophysics

Position Summary: The Interfacial Science Laboratory (ISL) in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for two postdoctoral positions in the cross-cutting areas of interfacial science, colloidal phenomena, transport phenomena, rheology, and/or biophysics. The UC, Riverside- Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering is ranked among the top 50 departments in the US. The initial appointment would be for one year, with the possibility to renew up to two more years based on the research performance. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and 0-year experience postdoc starts with an annual salary of $53,460 up to $64,008 based on the University of California regulations. Requirements: The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Physics, and Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field. The experiences in surface forces apparatus, atomic force microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, Langmuir-Blodgett technique, and micro/nanofabrication would be desired but not mandatory. Candidates should be familiar with writing protocols, managing day-to-day implementation of protocol procedures, ensuring quality data acquisition, analyzing multilevel repeated-measures data, writing manuscripts, and collaborating with students.

1. Interfacial and Colloidal Science:
The ideal candidate will be involved in projects seeking (a) to perform rheological measurements at multiple length scales to gain insights into how the isotropic and anisotropic adsorption of organic molecules alter the flow characteristics of colloidal suspensions and (b) to perform experimental data analysis and interpretation by relying on existing colloidal and rheological models. The ideal candidate is hoped to have a background in colloidal phenomena, force spectroscopy, fluid dynamics, physicochemistry, rheological testing, and/or colloidal/nanoparticle synthesis.

2. Biointerfaces and Biophysics:
The successful candidate is expected to take a leadership role in the following research areas of (a) intermolecular forces arising in biomembranes and (b) phase transition behavior of lipid and protein mixtures in monolayer and bilayer systems. The candidate is expected to have a PhD focusing on one or more of the following topics: lipid bilayers, protein interactions, force spectroscopy, and fluorescence microscopy.
