The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering (NYU Tandon) invites applications for the position of Department Chair and Professor of MAE, with an anticipated start date of June 1, 2023.

The MAE department has 20 full-time faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and contract faculty), some with cross appointments in other engineering departments such as Civil and Urban Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and the Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP). The department also has five faculty members who reside at NYU’s campus in Abu Dhabi, two research faculty, and seven affiliated faculty from other units of NYU.

Research in the MAE Department includes robotics/AI, dynamical and complex systems, biomedical systems, materials engineering, additive manufacturing, and thermo-fluids. The Department also has strength in STEM education research. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering as well as an MS degree in Mechatronics and Robotics. There are over 400 undergraduate students and 250 graduate students including 42 PhD students in the department.

Qualifications
The Department Chair is expected to provide vision and leadership to advance the education and research missions of the department. The Chair will serve as the primary representative of the department within the School, the University, and the community-at-large.

Successful candidates should have a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. We seek an individual with a strong record of scholarship, leadership, curricular innovation, an excellent funding record, and a strong commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion.
