The University of Dayton Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position specializing in autonomous systems-robotics. The position begins January 1, 2022.

For the robotics-autonomous systems specialization, the successful candidate will teach both required major courses and elective courses within the Robotic Systems Minor, such as Mechatronics and Introduction to Robot Design. The successful candidate will develop an active research program including mentoring graduate students, seeking research funding, and publication and presentation of research. The successful candidate will contribute to University and professional service activities.

Minimum Requirements
All applicants must be nearing completion of all requirements for their Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
● Effective written communication skills
● Demonstrated commitment to understanding and promoting inclusive excellence
● Articulated potential for teaching excellence particularly employing active and experiential learning pedagogies
● Articulated potential for performing scholarly research involving autonomous systems, robotics, or mechatronics

Preferred Requirements
While applicants may not possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following qualifications:
● Successful experience teaching courses concerning autonomous systems, robotics, or mechatronics
● Successful experience performing scholarly research involving autonomous systems, robotics, or mechatronics
● Successful experience writing funding proposals
● Commitment to the breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition
● Successful experience in engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds
● Commitment to service to the community, university, and profession
● Effective oral communication skills
● Effective interpersonal skills

Special Instructions
Interested persons must submit a cover letter addressing all qualifications met, curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, and three two-page statements. The statement of teaching interests and philosophy should address potential for teaching excellence particularly employing active and experiential learning pedagogies. The statement of research interests and vision should address potential for performing scholarly research involving autonomous systems, robotics, or mechatronics. The third statement should address as to how you would promote inclusive excellence through your research, teaching, and service. If the Ph.D. is not completed, a letter from the research advisor is required stating that the candidate will be nearing completion of all requirements.
