The Department of Chemical Engineering at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The general area of expertise the candidate preferably has is Computational methods and AI-assisted design and optimization in chemical engineering. The salary will be commensurate with experience and Assistant Professor position. McGill University is among the top research-intensive academic institutions in Canada, attracting over 500 million dollars in competitive research funding annually. It has been consistently ranked as one of the top 25 universities worldwide in a number of recent surveys. The Department of Chemical Engineering has a long tradition of research and teaching excellence (more than 100 years), and currently has 18 dynamic Faculty members (www.mcgill.ca/chemeng). The successful candidate will play a leading role in maintaining McGill’s international reputation of excellence in research, teaching and service.

We are particularly interested in the following area of expertise:

Artificial Intelligence in Chemical Engineering: Research areas of interest include , but are not limited to expert systems and machine learning chemical engineering applications in areas such as sustainable material processing and design, complex energy and materials flows, fault detection and risk analysis , chemical process design , process modelling and optimization, autonomous intelligent control, integration of AI technology with chemical processes, and hybrid integrated modelling based on first principles and AI.

The Department is committed to excellence in teaching in its undergraduate and graduate programs in Chemical Engineering and values service contributions of its Faculty members to the University, the profession and society at large.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. preferable in Chemical Engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Evidence of outstanding research achievements, or research potential, is paramount. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to the mission of the University, through outstanding activities in the areas of research, teaching and service. The successful candidate should either hold a license to practice engineering in one of the Canadian provinces, or be eligible for licensure.
