Academic coordinator for the department of Bioproducts and Biosystems
We are looking for an organized and proactive academic coordinator for
the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems (Bio2) in the School of Chemical Engineering. In this position, you will have a chance to make an impact by supporting the leadership of the department as well as meaningful and impactful events for the Circular Materials Bioeconomy Network (CIMANET), its external collaborators and doctoral researchers.
Your role and goals
The academic coordinator will have an important role in supporting the Head of Department of Bio2 and coordinating department-level activities, for example, internal events and regular meetings of the leadership. Once established, the academic coordinator will work closely with our professors and academic staff and proactively create networks beyond the department and school to support the department’s activities and strategy. The selected candidate will also take an active role in developing communality in the department, in addition to supporting activities related to wellbeing at work. The selected candidate will create presentations and reports, in addition to organizing events.
In a complementary role, the selected candidate will coordinate activities of
the Circular Materials Bioeconomy Network (CIMANET). CIMANET is a doctoral education network that aims to provide scientific and technological competences to support the renewal of the bio-based industry through new sustainable materials and processes. The academic coordinator will act as a first contact point to facilitate networking with companies and other stakeholders, in addition to organizing events, and taking part in and coordinating other CIMANET activities like network-wide doctoral courses together with the CIMANET leadership.

The department of
Bioproducts and Biosystems (Bio2), one of the three departments in the School of Chemical Engineering at Aalto University, has an internationally leading reputation in basic and applied research for the development of advanced materials from natural resources. It is one of the leading European research and higher education institutions in the field of sustainable chemistry and engineering based on the utilization of renewable resources. Bio2 aims to contribute to the development of novel solutions to move towards sustainable primary production and processing systems that can produce materials with fewer inputs, less environmental impact and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Within bioscience, the department has research in bioprocess technology, molecular biotechnology, enzyme technology, metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, biomolecular, and biohybrid materials. Other strengths of the department include sustainable materials and products based on lignocellulose, ranging from nanomaterials to novel cellulose-based textiles.

We are looking for a professional with the following skills and competences:
- Doctoral degree
- Background in suitable field related to the department activities
- Experience and a strong drive to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders ranging from professors and staff at the department to doctoral researchers, professors and company representatives in CIMANET
- Proven track record of organizational and networking skills
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English
- Finnish profiency is seen as an advantage
- Openness to networking within the university to create bridges with research, learning and other services for the best outcomes for the department

The selected candidate will be granted a fixed-term contract for three years. The salary is determined according to the salary system of universities, and the salary range for the position is approximately 4000-4500 € based on the selected candidate's experience.
