The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology invites applications for our 10-month assistant or associate professor position to perform research, teaching, and service. Our new colleague will establish a collaborative, externally funded research program with a focus on computer science education. Teaching will be spread across the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department and the Master of Science for Teachers (MST) programs with approximately twelve credits per year. Service will include statewide outreach to K-12 Computer Science educators and students, including summer programs for which the 10th month of support is included.

For this endowed faculty position, required qualifications include [1] PhD in computer science or a closely related field; [2] ability to establish an externally funded, collaborative research program with a focus on computer science education; [3] ability to communicate clearly and teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in CSE and MST; and [4] ability to support student academic success by engaging and encouraging students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.  The successful candidate is expected to start at NMT in August of 2023 or as negotiated.  Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications as aligned with the details contained in NMT’s Policy and Procedure for Appointment, Promotion & Tenure.

Information on the Randolph Computer Science Education program and associated responsibilities can be found online. The Randolph Computer Science Education Program provides initial funding to support the education program and assistance for operation of the summer program.

The NMT Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the oldest computer science programs west of the Mississippi and offers an array of bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees in computer science, information technology, and management. With 13 faculty and approximately 230 students, the department offers an intimate, highly focused setting for obtaining an education and conducting research. In addition, the associated New Mexico Cybersecurity Center of Excellence offers masters and doctoral programs in transdisciplinary cybersecurity.
