The Department of Electrical, Computer and Software Engineering invites applications from qualified individuals, for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Electrical Engineering with the following preferred areas of expertise: electric machines and drives with emphasis on high power electric traction machines and applications to modern transportation systems. Candidates with experience in product design, development and implementation in the above areas will be given preference. This position is subject to budgetary approval, and would start on July 1, 2018, or as soon as filled.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct active research and create innovative research programs within their field. The candidate will also be expected to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless technology, UOIT seeks faculty who strive to explore and develop new pedagogies. The candidate should possess a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering; a strong academic background; an established record of excellence in innovative and scholarly research, leading to peer assessed publications; and be registered, or eligible for and committed to registration, as a Professional Engineer within the Province of Ontario. Related industrial experience would be considered an asset. The candidate must also demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions. In addition, the candidate should also possess excellent English language skills, demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.
The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 40% Research, 40% Teaching and 20% Service workload each year.
The Department of Electrical, Computer and Software Engineering (ECSE) currently hosts an NSERC Canada Research Chair (CRC) in the area of Electric Energy storage Systems for Transportation Electrification. Also, the Faculty has complement of researchers in the area of automotive engineering working in special areas of autonomous, hybrid and electric vehicles. The candidate will be expected to build and lead research in their specific field of expertise and complement existing research.
The ECSE Department offers Master’s (MASc and MEng) and PhD programs in Electrical Engineering (with various specializations). The Department is committed to excellence and innovation in interdisciplinary teaching and research, which is relevant to the needs of society and our surroundings. UOIT has outstanding research facilities, the largest of them being the Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE). The ACE is a 16,300m2 facility that is the first multi-purpose testing and research centre of its kind in Canada, and which houses one of the largest and most sophisticated climatic wind tunnels in the world. This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the tenured and tenure track collective agreement.
