New Joint Faculty Search in Mechanical Engineering and the Institute for CyberScience
The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering and Institute for CyberScience at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park is pleased to invite applications for tenure-track positions anticipated in mechanical engineering at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels. The Department will consider areas pertinent to the area of energy with particular interest in uncertainty quantification (UQ), data-driven modeling, and optimization.
The Department is home to more than 65 faculty, 400 graduate students, and 1100 undergraduate students. The faculty conduct in excess of $20M per year of funded research across a broad spectrum of traditional and emerging areas. Penn State actively encourages and provides resources for interdisciplinary research collaboration through university-level institutes including the Institute for CyberScience (ICS). As one of Penn State’s five university-wide research institutes, ICS connects researchers from numerous disciplines to answer critical scientific questions and societal issues through cyber-enabled research and methodology. The Institute has nearly 300 affiliated faculty, with over 20 tenure-track co-hired faculty, engaged in interdisciplinary computation and data enabled research. Affiliated faculty utilize ICS operated Advanced Cyber Infrastructure (ICS-ACI), Penn State’s high-performance research cloud, which is in the top 15 among our peers. Successful applicants will have demonstrated outstanding scholarly research and will have expressed strong interest in engineering education. Qualification for the position is a doctorate in engineering or a related field that must be completed by the start date in the position. Those considered for the Associate level must demonstrate an established record in research. The successful candidates will be expected to teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, to develop an internationally-recognized, externally-funded research program, and to contribute to the operation and promotion of the department, college, university, and profession through service.
